Bellingham Kayak Club

An after school paddling program for high schoolers

What is the BKC?

The Bellingham Kayak Club is a pilot program designed to provide sea kayak programming to local Bellingham high school students. Over the course of seven weeks, participants will understand the basics of sea kayak-based travel and recreation. Not only will students develop a comfort in kayaks, but they will also learn skills pertinent to trip planning, trip packing, weather forecasting, and more. This course is designed for the next generation of coastal explorers to hone their skills and develop a growing relationship with Bellingham Bay and other aquatic resources.

Program Logistics

Maximum of 12 participants, 2 instructors

Monday and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm at the CBC

14 seats needed, preferably a combination of tandem/single sit inside kayaks

Required Gear

All sailors are required to wear a PFD with a whistle, which the CBC will provide. There will also be days that we will require a wetsuit (which we can provide) or you won’t be able to paddle. We strongly encourage additional proper gear such as gloves and booties (we have these available as well!). Please no cotton base layers or sweatshirts, they do not dry and can be a safety hazard on windy or colder days. On the days we are not able to paddle, we will do relevant and fun on shore activities.
